It’s the bank holiday weekend, and should the sun make an appearance beer gardens across Gwent will be full of people enjoying the good weather and the company of friends and family.
In an effort to find some of the best spots to enjoy a drink al fresco, we asked our readers to tell us where their favourite beer gardens are.
From gardens with river views, to trendy roof terraces in the city, here are some of the Gwent’s best beer gardens, as chosen by you in no particular order.
The Lighthouse Inn in St Bride’s Wentloog
Overlooking the Severn Estuary, the Lighthouse Inn has the perfect location. The building, which is at least 300 years old, used to be a farm house and is a popular spot for sitting out in the sun and enjoying a meal.
St Julian Inn, Caerleon
If it’s views you’re after then there is one place you have to visit. Set above the river Usk, on the main road from Newport to Caerleon, the St Julian Inn is a favourite among beer garden fans.
Apart from a big internal bar area, there is a balcony with outdoor tables and places to sit around their gardens and lawns.
The Potters Pub, Newport City Centre
One of the most popular beer gardens in Newport is The Potters Pub. The garden might still be getting a bit of a makeover, but that won’t stop it being one of the most hopping spots this bank holiday. With music and delicious food available, it’s a beer garden that always tops the list.
The Coach and Horses Inn, Caerwent
The pub has a brand new area in their beer garden that is for adults only. While other parts of the beer garden has everything to keep the kids entertained as well as seating area, this part is a kid-free zone.
Katalina Peterson, who works at the pub, said: “Not everyone has kids, so this area is just for adults to relax and have a drink as well as to have a meal.”
The Castell y Bwch in Henllys, Cwmbran
This pub has spectacular views of the local countryside as well as Twmbarlwm. The traditional country pub has a garden with plenty of space and a good menu which always attracts the locals.
There’s also plenty of space for children to play and the £1.99 kids meal offer makes it the perfect for a family outing.
The Grofield Inn, Abergavenny
In the centre of Abergavenny you’ll find one of Gwent’s favourite beer gardens at The Grofield Inn. Away from the hustle and bustle of the town, the beer garden is fully enclosed with a grassed area, patio and covered decking, just in case it rains.
With events including barbecues and live music, it’s one of the busiest places in town.
