THERE is lots going on this bank holiday weekend, including a variety of events to keep all the family entertained. From archery to kayaking, here are some of the events taking place in Gwent.

  • You can climb the scaffolding at Tredegar House in Newport this weekend. Take advantage of this last opportunity to climb to the top of the mansion and take a look at the conservation work happening on the roof. Restrictions are in place and can be found at nationaltrust.org.uk/tredegarhouse
  •  There will be kayaking sessions throughout the weekend at Tredegar House in Newport from 10am to 4pm. No experience necessary and no equipment needed, and sessions include a safety briefing and buoyancy aid fitting, personal instruction on paddle techniques and tackling a course of buoys before heading out to explore the lake.   • Try your hand at archery in Caldicot Castle with a trained instructor this weekend. Sessions take place from 11am to 4pm and cost £2. For more information call 01291 420241.
  • There will be a family fun day and rural market held at Llanyrafon Manor on Sunday from 1am to 3pm. There will be live music, face painting, crafts and games including welly wanging. More information can be found on the Llanyrafon Manor Facebook page, or call 01633 648562.

  • Experience the life of a medieval squire and do some squire training at Abergavenny Museum on Sunday. Suitable for children aged over 9, the sessions take place between 10am and 1pm, and 1.30pm and 4.30pm. To book contact the museum on 01873 854282.
  • The food and craft market returns on Sunday, from 1am to 4pm, to The Tea Rooms in Belle Vue Park, Newport. There will be lots of food stands and arts and crafts. Find out more at cotyledon.co.uk.
  •  On Sunday and Monday from 11am to 5pm you can step back in time at the Tudors re-enactment at Raglan Castle with the Beaufort Company. Find out more at cadw.gov.wales.
  • Step back to the era of Raglan Castle’s beginnings, as the Beaufort Company brings the 15th Century to life with living history, combat displays, shining knights and colourful characters.
  • Hope Rescue will be holding a dog show and family fun day at Llancaiach Fawr Manor in Nelson on bank holiday Monday from 11am to pm. Find out more at hoperescue.org.uk.
  • Pill Carnival takes place on bank holiday Monday, featuring floats and a procession as well as a funfair, live music and the annual tug of war competition. The parade starts at 1pm from Alexander Road. More information can be found on the Pill Carnival Committee Facebook page.
  • There is a Bank Holiday Fun Day at the Transporter Bridge on Monday from 10am to 4.30pm. You can climb over the top or ride on the gondola on Newport’s iconic bridge. There will also be music and refreshments available. Find out more at fontb.org.uk.
