Andy Howells chats to Newport based band Burning Ferns on the eve of the release of their debut album See Saw Seen

Who are you and how did you come together?

We're Anthony Gray, Nathan Abraham, Brychan Todd and Slim Short. We've been friends for a long time. Tone and Brych were in school together. Tone and Abo started frequenting, playing and eventually sharing landlord duties of Le Mons studio in Shaftesbury together. Slim had

always been around and about Newport and was already a friend. He's the greatest jobbing drummer in town so was the obvious choice.

Musically we are bonded by closely shared musical tastes and galvanized by a love of laughter, guitars and vocal harmonies.

Where are you from?

In and around Newport, but Pontywaun should also get a mention.

How would you describe your music style?

Harmonious, melodious, colourful, guitary, riff laden, hooky and hopefully catchy.

What’s been your best live experience?

Our last gig at Le Pub supporting Otis Gibbs. Great venue, lovely crowd, fantastic beer.

You have a new album can you tell us more about that?

It's called See Saw Seen and it's out now on Country Mile Records. It's a happy family of ten songs. Each appears different to its sibling but they all seem to get on well together. We recorded and produced it in 2013 in Le Mons. We were lucky enough to have one Richard Jackson help record and produce it. Two Richard Jacksons would have been amazing, but unfortunately that's impossible without cloning.

Where can people hear your music?

See Saw Seen can be found in Newport's own Diverse Records, Cardiff's Spiller's and all the South Wales HMV's as well as the usual online

download providers. If you get in quick enough, and you like to wear badges, then you may be able to get a copy direct from www.countrymile.org with a free limited edition badge.

Catch Burning Ferns at their album launch party with Railroad Bill and the Grief Brothers supporting at Le Pub, Saturday November 30.
