A SPECIAL reunion is being organised for pupils who started at Newport High School 50 years ago.

Paul Green, 61, who was in the class of 1962, came up with the idea of getting his school year to meet up while out for a drink in 1996.

That year, pupils reminisced, marking 100 years since the school opened and there have been subsequent reunions in 2001, 2006 and 2010.

This year, 44 people have said they will attend out of 120 in the year.

Mr Green would like to see as many people attend as possible on October 20 at 37 Stow Hill, which is opposite the former Baneswell Social Club.

He said it does not feel like 50 years ago he started at school.

“This is the 50th year since we began and people say it’s quite a big time in your life,” he said.

“When we were children people in their 60s seemed so old, but now we think about it differently and you just get on with it.”

A buffet, bar and music will feature at the celebration event.

Anyone who would like to attend should call Mr Green on 01633 251663.
