Meet Queenie May

South Wales Argus: Queenie May recently released her second single Addiction. Queenie May recently released her second single Addiction.

Who are you and where do you originate from?

My name is Queenie May. People call me Q. I’m from a tiny village called Devauden, in Monmouthshire.

Are you from a musical background and how did you get into music?

Not really no, but I’ve always been singing, and I’ve been having lessons for around eight years. I used to only sing songs from musicals but I started writing my own kind of music for my GCSE exam. Part of it was composition so after a load of help off my teachers I kind of found my way into it from there.

For those who haven’t heard you how would you describe your style of music?

It’s just like soft pop. It’s not too heavy but still has a funky kind of feel. It’s quite easy-listening-esque

You’ve already had some success as a recording artist with your first two singles – what was that like?

It was super exciting. I didn’t think any success would come out of it at all but it was great that it did. It was a great feeling going onto the download sites every day and seeing that the singles had moved up in placement. I’m really grateful to everyone who took the time to listen and to those who bought it.

What can you tell us about your forthcoming album?

My forthcoming album is going to have a couple of cover tracks on as well as my original songs. I’ve got a Fleetwood Mac track on there as well as Clifford T. Ward and there are other songs I have written that haven’t been released yet.

Where can people see or hear you?

I’m going to hopefully be appearing on BBC Radio Wales and our local Neville Hall radio again soon. It was only last month that I turned 16 so now I have a much wider range of where I can play due to my age, but hopefully I’ll be getting some gigs confirmed in the near future.
