WELSH rockers Funeral For A Friend’s new album Conduit will be released on January 28 and next week they will be playing dates in Cardiff and Bristol to promote their new release.

Guitarist Kris Coombs- Roberts and new drummer Pat Lundy talk to Andy Howells...

2012 has been quite a year for you with the departure of Ryan Richards and the arrival of Pat Lundy as well as preparing your sixth studio album Conduit. Where do you feel you are as a band at the moment?

Kris: We’re in a good place at the moment. The album tracking went well.

Pat’s been an inspiration since he’s come in. We’re all chomping at the bit and eager to get out on tour.

You have quite a following on a local and international level; do you read feedback from your fanbase?

Pat: Sometimes, it’s hard not to read things now and then, especially when you’ve dropped a few new tracks. We’re keen to see what our awesome fans think, but the internet can be frustrating as most people online believe their opinion is gospel, whereas it’s usually pure speculation. Hearing from our fans at shows is probably a preferred option.

What’s the background inspiration to your latest album Conduit?

Kris: Honesty. Being true to ourselves and writing an album we believe in.

What are the stand-out tracks for you?

Pat: Conduit. Nails. Travelled. BFAHB.

The band has been together for over a decade now - do you still find it easy to work as a unit?

Kris: It’s always been easy. We argue from time to time but it’s like a family we always stick together.

Your touring again including a Cardiff date, do you enjoy playing on homeground?

Kris: For sure, its always nice when you’ve been away and you get to return to a warm, Welsh welcome. We can’t wait to play any show, but Cardiff will probably be a highlight for definite. It’s also on the same day the album is released, so that should add to the buzz on the night.

Beyond the album and tour have you any other plans for this year?

Pat: Tour, tour, tour, and more tour. We’ll see you on the road.
