“I’VE been in music all my life from the day I was conceived,” Mud Morganfield tells Andy Howells.

The eldest son of the legendary Muddy Waters, Mud Morganfield’s appearance at this year’s Abertillery Blues Festival follows on fromthe release of last years albumsuccess Son of The Seventh Son .

Mud says of the making of the album: “We had a ball; it’s just me with a great band and family members. It was fantastic recording it, just magical.”

I ask Mud about what it was like growing up in the home of such a musical legend as Muddy Waters. “It was musical, but you knowas a kid I sawvery little of poppa. He’d be gone for three weeks, then home for a couple of days, then he’d be gone again.”

Mud confirms he’s only ever been passionate about playing music, taking inspiration from the best in blues and Tamla Motown while growing up and playing alongside such luminaries as Buddy Guy, Paul Jones and Jimmy Johnson. He has also made several appearances in recent years on Later… With Jools Holland, an experience he always enjoys.

When Mud visits Abertillery Blues Festival next month he will perform some of his own songs as well as his fathers.

“ There will be a bunch of young people who never got chance to seemy father live so this is a great opportunity to give them a glimpse of what it might have been like,” he says.

“I’m still growing,” he says. “I’m working on a new album nowand there is still newstuff coming out of me.

“I’m grateful to the man above to enable me to do this great thing.”
