Cobie Smulders is rumoured to have joined the cast of comedy They Came Together.

The How I Met Your Mother star could be coming together with Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Ed Helms, Michael Ian Black and Ocean's Thirteen's Noureen DeWulf to make romantic comedy spoof, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Paul is said to have been cast as a big-shot corporate executive, whose business threatens to put Amy's quaint knick-knack shop out of business.

Noureen is to play the assistant to Paul's character, although the other roles have yet to be revealed.

Writer and filmmaker David Wain - who directed Wanderlust and Role Models - described They Came Together as "a spoof, homage, deconstruction and love letter to romantic comedies".

Canadian actress Cobie, who recently gave an impressive performance in Joss Whedon's Avengers Assemble as SHIELD agent Maria Hill, will next return to the small screen for the eighth season of How I Met Your Mother alongside co-stars Jason Segel, Josh Radnor, Alyson Hannigan and Neil Patrick Harris.
