A trailer for the latest film based on a book by Gone Girl author Gillian Flynn has been released.

The hotly-anticipated Dark Places trailer shows us a baseball cap-wearing Charlize Theron as Libby Day – the only surviving member of a family massacre some 20 years earlier.

It’s the international trailer which has been released today, meaning we get some bonus French subtitles, and a suggested released date of April 6.

The film also stars Nicholas Hoult as true crime enthusiast Lyle, who if the film is anything like the book, is a bit of creepy.

People are uber excited to see the whole thing which also stars Mad Men’s Christina Hendricks, Chloe Grace Moretz and Corey Stoll.

But just as Gone Girl fans were critical of Ben Affleck in the role of Nick Dunne in Gone Girl, pre release, not everyone is convinced by Charlize as the Libby they imagined from the novels.

There’s a whole lot of love for Gillian Flynn’s books, including her third novel Sharp Places, so it’s a given that not everyone will like the trailers and there’s been a division among fans.

That said, we’re expecting sceptical readers to be reluctantly buying cinema tickets next month.
