Christine Bleakley has revealed a tense health scare in which doctors ordered her to have three moles removed.

The Dancing On Ice presenter, who is preparing to run 5k for Cancer Research UK's Race For Life, had the moles cut from her leg, lower back and neck. After a nailbiting few days following the operation within the past month, she was eventually given the all-clear.

The TV host said: "I had my moles checked, just because I thought it was a good thing to do, and I discovered I had to have three removed. They were all fine, thank the Lord, but I had a period of not knowing whether it was fine or not.

"It's a funny old thing when you start realising it's not like you're 18 and you think you're going to live for ever.

She told the Press Association: "You start thinking slightly differently and you take a bit more care of yourself."

Although she was relieved with the outcome, she added: "You have that period when you're checking it and, goodness me, it was terrible. All sorts of thoughts run through your mind. But, thank the Lord, it was all fine."

The former Daybreak host had originally been to see her doctor about a different mole altogether, and was surprised when the others were mentioned.

She said: "I was scared about one that I could see had got bigger, but the doctor wasn't even a bit perturbed about that one. These other three I'd hardly even noticed. It just goes to show you've got to keep check of your own body and keep a look on things. It's good to feel for lumps and bumps. I tell everyone to go and do that."

The star - who has been promoting Vodafone's JustTextGiving service to encourage runners to sign up - will take part in the charity run in Richmond on July 15.
