The stage at the Bristol Hippodrome has been transformed into the magical Land of Oz as Wicked, the musical phenomenon that tells the incredible untold story of the Witches of Oz, has come to stay until Saturday 21 March. I must say that the set really blends in well to the auditorium at the Hippodrome.

Ultimately the story of an extraordinary friendship between two very different individuals who first meet as sorcery students, the premise of Wicked is that you’ve not been told the whole story about the Land of Oz. The musical creates a parallel universe to the famous Wizard of Oz story, fashioning a captivating adventure that finds familiar characters in surprising and unexpected new circumstances.

Emily Tierney is outstanding as Glinda, bringing the right amount of over the top girlyness to the role. Ashleigh Gray as Elphaba was amazing filling the auditorium with her singing. I loved Samuel Edwards portrayal of Fiyero, he was dashing as the student and soldier but then totally believable when falling in love with Elphaba. Finally, a mention for Stephen Pinder who played 2 roles really well as well as giving a ditsy lost feel to The Wizard character.

The whole cast and crew deserve a mention as the whole performance was faultless and the singing and dancing were marvellous regularly raising the hairs on the back of my neck. If you can find a ticket, I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Bristol to see the show.
