With childhood memories of the black and white cult tv series fading, I had no idea what to expect of the all-singing all-dancing stage version of Andrew Lippa’s The Addams Family. I have to say in the hands of local theatre group CentreStage Cymru, it was an undoubted success.

While inevitably the musical falls short in any comparison to The Rocky Horror Show, it is nevertheless a lot of fun, and this large cast, made the most of their opportunity to be outrageous and extremely funny.

Young Charlie Turner gave a fearless performance as Pugsley, dead-pan and completely un-fazed by his limelight, while big sister, Wednesday was played with the perfect air of confident disdain by Hannah Roper.

Matthew Bryant and Michelle Meano (Gomez and Morticia) brought new meaning to the word gothic, and Jordan Archer and Zoe Southcott played Uncle Fester and Grandma in two deliciously dark performances.

It was left to the talents of Sharon Higgins, Martin Woodsford and Christopher T Harris as the straight and upright Beineke family, to bring the contrast and the comedy to the production.

An extremely well-crafted set and an enthusiastic and well-rehearsed backing cast who made light of a big score and quirky choreography only added to the success of the production.

You have until Saturday to catch up with it
