ELTON John and his band delighted fans in Cardiff on their Follow the Yellow Brick Tour, celebrating the 40th anniversary re-release of the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album.

The show kicked off with a long musical introduction to Funeral for a Friend / Love Lies Bleeding, the opening track from the album, displaying the band’s musical talents and expertise, followed by Bennie and the Jets, Candle in the Wind and All the Girls Love Alice.

Elton looked resplendent in sparkling blue jacket while Davey Johnstone, Kim Bullard, Matt Bissonette, John Mahon and Nigel Olssen sported suits and ties and provided beautiful backing vocals and harmonies which carried Elton John throughout the performance.

Elton’s voice was, at times, more of a shout and deciphering the lyrics was quite tough, but the crowd were familiar with all the tracks and belted them out while waving feather boas in the air and wearing huge plastic spectacles in all colours!

Elton’s piano playing was mesmerising though and there’s no doubt he is one of the best showmen out there.

He shows great respect and appreciation of his fans and thanked them for their support throughout his career.

It was clear that this band love what they do and the atmosphere felt more like a private jamming session than a huge arena gig at times.

The hits kept coming with Tiny Dancer, Daniel, Rocket Man, I Guess That’s Why They Call It the Blues, Your Song, I’m Still Standing, Sad Songs, Sacrifice, Don’t Let the Sun Go Down On Me and Saturday Night’s Allright for Fighting. Elton and his band played for more than two hours non-stop, finishing off with Crocodile Rock.
