BATHED in the glorious technicolour of Joseph's Amazing new coat, the newly refurbished Christchurch Hall had never looked better, but would the Christchurch Music Society rise to the tremendous vocal challenge posed by Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd-Webber in this now infamous musical?
With a full capacity audience giving the thumbs-up, the answer was a resounding yes'.
From the rousing opening through to the Any Dream Will Do finale, this large, well-rehearsed cast gave their all, and full credit must be given to director Bryn Middleton and musical director,Liz McAinsh.
Based on the biblical story of Jacob's favourite son whose jealous brothers plot to get rid of him after their father presents him with a coat of many colours, it is certainly not one of the most straightforward plots in a musical.
Congratulations then to narrators Jan Parfitt and Kate Summers in faultlesslykeeping the action moving whilst simultaneouslyfilling the audience in with detail along the way.
David Middleton proved that he is notjust a comedian andplayed an endearing Joseph.
There were some notable performances too from Laura Pettit as Butler, a confident Andrew Griffiths as Zebulum and a suitably vamp-like Liz Griffiths as Potiphar's wife.
This production runs until Saturday
