THE best thing about the Welsh Proms is that they make classical music accessible to all - and they really do include something for everyone.

The annual Sunday afternoon Family Prom is aimed at children of all ages, and there were babies, toddlers, primary age children and teenagers in the hall to enjoy this very entertaining programme of film themes by Cardiff Philharmonic Orchestra.

Conducted by their musical director Michael Bell and compered by comedian/entertainer Mike Doyle, this hour-long prom included lots of fun and jokes as well as information about the various sections of the orchestra, which were introduced and explained individually.

All the children seemed to really enjoy the well-known music from this established local orchestra, especially the medleys of songs from the much-loved Disney film Frozen and the
classic Mary Poppins.

The themes from Pirates of the Caribbean and finally Star Wars were also much enjoyed, ending with a wonderful encore of the Great Escape theme.

The next prom at St David's is The Planets, featuring the Liverpool Philarharmonic and conductor Owain Arwel Hughes on Tuesday evening at 7.30pm, continuing with a nightly prom at the hall until the last night on Saturday - not to be missed!
