TRANSPORTING the audience back to 1961, the popular musical features some of the best songs of the rock ’n’ roll era. Favourites from the fifties and sixties and the best-selling albums Dreamboats and Petticoats packed the performance and had the audience involved from the start.
The multi-talented actors had great chemistry, big vocals and the audience could connect with everyone as the musicians had a strong presence on stage throughout.
The simple set made up of old TV adverts created the perfect scene for the youth club, with the story following musicians Norman (Alastair Hill) and Bobby (Alistair Higgins) through their everyday lives, competing in both love, (for the heart of the stunning Sue (Laura Darton) and to win a national song writing competition. The talented duo battle throughout, while on the sidelines the lovely Laura (Chloe Edwards-Wood) is desperate to win Bobby’s heart, overcoming many obstacles along the way.
Other stand out performances came from Ray (David Luke) and Donna (Gracie Johnson), who with their energetic dance moves got the audience on their feet for the last four numbers, with the majority dancing and singing to the well-known songs.
An unmissable performance from a great cast, the production runs until Saturday.
