WHEN you step into the theatre for a production by the Abergavenny Amateur Operatic and Dramatic Society, you know it’ll be a treat. Tonight’s performance was no exception.

Set to music written by Country legend Dolly Parton, the show was led effortlessly by Cecilia Bawler as Violet, and confidently supported by the Parton-esque Kelsea Richardson (Doralee) and Lucy Richards (Judy), whose dynamic group performances arguably stole the show. Together they form a trio of browbeaten secretaries working at Consolidated Industries, who rebel against their egotistical boss Franklin Hart Jr, played by the suitably slick and sleazy Matthew Bryant.

There was a typically strong cast, with particular highlights from Kerrigan Heffernan as soppy love interest Joe, and Lucy Draper playing the delightfully dorky Roz. As ever, the cast were supported by a talented all-singing, all-dancing chorus, who kept the energy at a constant high.

The opening was marred by a few minor technical problems, but it was nothing compared to a show that kept toes tapping and laughter flowing from start to finish.

For an entertaining night out, look no further. Tickets are available and the show runs until Saturday.
