Chasing Rainbows, The Riverfront

Busy London can be overwhelming for many people at times, so imagine being lost and with the added vulnerability of having a learning difficulty.

Hayley, an endearing character played with skill by Catherine Morris, might not realise the danger she could be in, but her frantic social worker, Carol (Julia Wyndham) knows all too well what could be out there and starts a fretful search.

Chasing Rainbows is a touching tale about being included – a posh word for “joining in” – and we see Hayley, who is in the capital to read her poem at an inclusion conference, trying to make friends with those around her.

These include Geoffrey Parker (Adam Timms) who is MP for inclusion, and Kit (John Norton), a homeless busker who teaches her about keeping safe on the streets.

This is a wonderful production by Hijinx Theatre with a very talented cast who succesfully showed a crowded, scary London with four actors and a superb soundtrack.

They also worked closely with Odessy Theatre and Sbectrwm to include people with learning difficulties in creating wonderful animations to show Hayley’s thoughts, a device that proved a great success.
