REGARDED as one of the best live bands around in the UK today, Leicester’s finest didn’t disappoint at a sold-out Newport Centre on Friday night.
On the crest of a wave with new album West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum topping the UK charts and the seriously catchy Fire proving a big hit, they are serious hot property.
They kicked off the evening in style with the opening song from the new album, Underdog, which sent the crowd wild.
Old favourites like Shoot The Runner, Cut Off and Club Foot were passionately done but a personal favourite, Processed Beats, seemed a tad undercooked.
But they soon got the show back on the road with show-stopping performances of Empire and Fire.
Tom Meighan is a great front man and the band gave their all for an hour and a half in sweltering conditions – it was not for the faint-hearted near the front.
One of the highlights was Fast Fuse from West Ryder Pauper Lunatic Asylum, a song seemingly influenced by the psychedelia of early Pink Floyd.
Coming back for an extended encore, with their obligatory take on Candi Staton’s You’ve Got The Love, they sent the place wild again when they bowed out with Lost Souls Forever.
Kasabian are a true class act.
