A Trip to the Movies, Dolman Theatre

The Young Venture Players once again came up trumps with another lively performance. Directed by Gordon Collins, the musical revue, A Trip to the Movies was full of their trademark energy and confidence.

Compere Tony Wright of Real Radio hit just the right note and had the audience in good spirits from the first time he took to the stage.

Opening with the Blues Brothers, the feel-good factor was immediately evident and a large, well-disciplined cast ran through favourite numbers from Moulin Rouge, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Dream Girls and Singin' in the Rain with ease.

Pupils from Maes Ebbw School joined in seamlessly with numbers from Pete's Dragon, Ghostbusters, Wonderful World and Heal the World and they all thoroughly enjoyed their moments on stage.

There's certainly a number of very proud parents today.

Full credit must go to musical diector Cathy Robins and choreographer Abbie Gregory in the very successful co-ordination of both old and new members.

The revue runs until Saturday.

The company are currently looking for boys aged 13-18 for their next production, Les Miserables. If you have a strong singing voice and would like to audition Tel: Gordon Collins 07540 846872 or Julie Ash 07710 271039

Being a grumpy old *** I attended the show expecting the worst.
By the time I rose to go home I was brimming with praise for the cast and everyone else involved.
It was wonderful!
But better still, it has fully restored my faith in the younger generations. Long may they shine.

I took my mother to this event on Friday evening. I thought we had tickets to a play.
When I saw the program upon arrival, I expected the worse, however I have to say that I was bowled over by the show, the kids were great, the direction and choreography was first rate and I had a very enjoyable evening. Mum was full of praise for all of the kids involved and was looking for a way to contact the company to say how much she had enjoyed the evening. I hope someone from the Young Venture Players will pass on the fact that there were some very impressed people in the audience.
I was far less impressed with some members of the audience. There were two "ladies" sitting directly behind us who talked all the way through the show. I thought that very rude and inconsiderate. Why go to see a show and just natter to someone all the way through, they could have done that at home over a cup of coffee. The lady sat next to my mother had a small child on her lap for the first half, this child was in and out of the chair and kicked mum black and blue, with no apology from the parent. I changed places at the interval but the child did not come back for the second half.
I cannot believe how much mess they left under their seat as well.
I stopped going to the movies over 25 years ago when I could no longer hear the soundtrack over the chomping of crisps and sweets and slurping of drinks from fellow patrons. I see that the theatre is going the same way. What a shame.
