Strictly Come Dancing stars Anton Du Beke and Erin Boag gave us a night of glitz and glamour in their Puttin' on the Ritz roadshow - and this stylish pair could give Fred and Ginger a run for their money any day.
A near sell-out audience got their money's worth as the performance on the stage at St David's Hall was superb. There was a brilliant mix of four excellent show dancers, Francine Cornell, Lisa Dent, Ben Campbell and Tom Goodall, singer Lance Ellington, one of the featured vocalists from Strictly, the Welsh Concert Orchestra under the baton of Richard Balcombe, and the stars of the show themselves in a fast-moving mixture of song and dance.
Erin's dresses were fabulous glittering and flowing creations, and Anton's suits were well up to the usual immaculate standard.
The show opened with Irving Berlin's 'Puttin' on the Ritz', and most of the music was from the classic showsong and jazz era of the thirties and forties.
The show was not all dance numbers - Erin and Anton both had a good line of chat with the audience, and they both showed they have extremely good voices when they sang the vocals to a few of the numbers. They told jokes about one another as well as the inevitable references to Ann Widdecombe, Anton's partner in the last series of 'Strictly': "Thirty years of training for this," Anton said, in a long-suffering tone.
The whole show all came together very well. The choreography was superb, and the best part for me was a superb tango, which was dark and deep and really had the wow factor.
They danced the evening away beautifully, with another highlight being a Viennese Waltz to Cole Porter's 'Wunderbar'. I could easily have watched the whole show again. Brilliant
