FOLLOWING the recent release of their debut album Love In The 4th Dimension, The Big Moon are undertaking a UK tour which brings them to Cardiff’s Clwb Ifor Bach on April 21.

The band recently unveiled a new recording of their debut single, Sucker, which has also been featured on the album.

Andy Howells recently put questions to Fern from the band.

How did The Big Moon come together?

I met Jules about 3 years ago now. I heard through a mutual friend that she was looking start a band and I had nothing on so I thought, why not. We got together a week later and had a play about, that worked out really well and so we decided to have a scout for some other members.

What inspired the bands name?

We were originally called The Moon but it turned out, as you'd expect, that name had already been taken. So we didn't wanna come up with a whole other name so we decided to add a word. We ended up with Big.

Can you tell us a bit about your new album and what inspired it?

We recorded our album last summer with the legendary producer Catherine Marks. Catherine and ourselves had a pretty mad schedule but we managed to cram the recording into 12 days, 7 with Catherine and 5 with our engineer Cecil Bartlett. It was a lot of fun to record. Playing shows is amazing but we really wanted to have a definitive snapshot of all the songs we'd been working on for two and a half years.

You've also got a new single - what's the inspiration behind that?

Sucker is the one of the first songs we ever worked on and we re-recorded it for the album. It's really cool to see how we've grown as a band compared to the first recording of it. It's a rally special song to us as a band. We also filmed the video in an old Western movie set in California and dressed up as Cowboys, which was a lot of fun.

You're heading out on tour - what can we expect from your live sets?

Loud guitars, solid rhythm section and sweet harmonies.

Is your Cardiff show your first visit to Wales?

I'm from Senghenydd, so spent a great deal of time in Wales but as a band we've played S?n a couple of times which has always been a lot of fun.

What sounds are you currently listening to and what's your must-have track on a playlist?

As a band we're currently listening to a lot of Marika Hackman, The Magic Gang, Shame and Dream Wife.

Do you prefer vinyl or digital?

Both, I love the freedom that digital offers, you can take your music anywhere with you but there's something magical about the physical aspect of vinyl.
