A STAR of the hit TV show, The Voice, will return to South Wales for a homecoming gig.

Hannah Berney, 21, from Chepstow, was part of The Script frontman Danny O’Donnoghue’s team on the show, reaching the The Voice was due to have a run of shows of its own, but after those were recently cancelled, it has given Hannah the chance to showcase some of her own material and live twists on some of her favourite covers.

Hannah, who will be playing The Globe in Cardiff on July 26, said: “The show is going to be a mix of my soul-pop sound, and hopefully people will be on their feet and dancing for the majority of it.”

In recent months another talent show contestant, 2011 X Factor winner Matt Cardle, has slammed the format, blasting everything from his clothes, to having to sing Katy Perry records, but Hannah feels her appearance on the show has accelerated her career.

Hannah said: “Although it can be frustrating not being able to choose what you sing and what you wear on the show, the people you get to work with and the opportunities it gives you are amazing.”

The Exeter University student, who has been delighted to be invited into schools to chat to children after reaching the show, hopes to have some of her own material available to download later on in the year or in early 2013.

Although she knows there is a lot of hard work to come Hannah has allowed a couple of dream duets to drift into her mind.

“I would love to duet with (American singer songwriter) Gavin DeGraw, I love his sound and his voice is amazing. Beyonce would probably be pretty good too,” she jokes.

Tickets cost £8 in advance or £10 on the door. See globecardiffmusic.com for more information.
