WE don’t often get actors of the calibre of Dame Helen Mirren and Dominic Cooper strut their stuff on Welsh stages.
But thanks to a new initiative of The National Theatre in London she will soon be seen in a filmed stage production at Monmouth’s The Blake Theatre.
It is part of a programme which will be broadcast from the stage to over 220 cinema venues around the world.
The play is a new production of Phedre by Jean Racine in a version written by the late Poet Laureate, Ted Hughes.
It stars Oscar winner Dame Helen (The Queen, Gosford Park, Calendar Girls) in the title role alongside rising British star Cooper (Mamma Mia, The History Boys, The Duchess, and The Escapist).
It will be filmed live on Thursday, June 25, starting at 7pm.
The play centres on Phedre who is consumed by an uncontrollable passion for her young stepson.
Tickets are priced at £10, available from the box office on 01600 719401 or www.theblaketheatre.org
