Erasure, St David's Hall, Cardiff

Set against a backdrop of huge diamonds, Erasure gave the crowd at St David's Hall a sparkling performance at the only Welsh date in their Light at the End of the World tour, the title of their latest album released in May.

They opened with Sunday Girl, the first track from the album and Andy Bell proudly sported a jacket with the face of Deborah Harry on the back.

This was followed by Blue Savannah, which got the crowd bouncing around and cheering, as Andy delighted us with his trademark dancing and twirling.

Other classics including Sometimes, A Little Respect and Love to Hate You were belted out by Andy Bell's unfaltering and powerful voice, backed by glamorous trio The Gazelles.

Several tracks including Fly Away and Sucker for Love from the new album followed and, although they were unfamiliar to me, I found myself singing along.

Vince Clarke's performance remains very understated.

Nevertheless, he obliged his professional partner with a full kiss on the lips, then went back to hide behind his banks of computers.

You couldn't be blamed for thinking he was indulging in a little online shopping!

With only one costume change - a surprising lack of flamboyance, with not a leotard in sight - the show came to an end with Andy Bell's unique rendition of Stop! - he forgot the words!

This was excellent entertainment, and I will be first in the queue for tickets when Erasure return to Wales.
