Personal Overview - Narrowly held a key marginal seat in Wales for Labour, and has been rewarded by becoming the Secretary for Health & Social Services. This lines up with her career, where she has worked for several voluntary organisations and is a former Vice Chairman of the Wales Council for Voluntary Action. Retained her position of Health Minister after the 2003 elections, despite public criticism of her handling of hospital waiting list issues. This was however only a short term respite, she was reshuffled in early 2005 after a perceived lack of progress, moving to cover Education in the Labour/Plaid Cymru coalition after the 2007 elections. Was shifted sideways in the December 2009 reshuffle promoted by the election of Carwyn Jones to the post of First Minister.

After selling the business he moved with his family back to Wales (he had lived there previously in the early 1980s). He joined UKIP in 2005 having been previously been a Conservative and has made the point that he is not a 'career politician'. He has stood for the party at the 2013 Ynys Môn Welsh Assembly by-election and is likely to have gained useful European experience through his time working for former UKIP MEP for Wales John Bufton.

Personal Overview - Joined the Assembly in July 2011 following the decision to disqualify John Dixon who had been elected at the May elections. He did not return to the Assembly despite the fact that his colleague Aled Roberts (who was also disqualified) was reinstated when it emerged that he had been misled by out of date guidelines for election candidates. She has an interest in educational issues where she has shown concern at the level of school funding in Wales compared to that of England.
