A PONTYPOOL-based playgroup is appealing for help to raise £3,000 for equipment.
Golliwopsie Playgroup in Griffithstown was founded by parents in 1976 and now provides a child care service to 41 children.
It became a registered charity ten years ago and as a non-profit making organisation relies on fundraising to equip its home at Griffithstown Labour Hall, in Edward Street.
Playgroup leaders Margaret Haines and Jane Matthews explained the group is planning a special Christmas party and many local businesses have donated prizes for a grand raffle to take place.
"In our annual inspection from the Care and Social Services Inspectorate in Wales they highlighted our equipment needs replacing," said Margaret.
"As a non profit making group, we are limited in how we use money that comes in.
"Parents pay a nominal fee of £2.50 per session and for example that covers wages and insurance.
We keep fees at a minimum because we would like to keep the playgroup affordable for all parents, it leaves us with little to use for updating equipment."
They have already been pledged a new slide and soft mats from Pontypool Round Table and one brave father, Richard Lane, has volunteered to undergo a full body wax to raise money for the cause.
