Bristol set for Parade

GUINNESS Premiership side Bristol are poised to play at Rodney Parade next season while their Memorial Ground is being redeveloped.

Talks are at an advanced stage for the English side, coached by former Ebbw Vale favourite Richard Hill, to play their league and European home games over the border.

They are currently the tenants of Bristol Rovers but next season are poised to fit in their games alongside Newport, who own Rodney Parade, and Newport Gwent Dragons.

Nothing has yet been signed but all the necassary approval has been given and developments are expected early next week.

With the surface at Rodney Parade one of the best around, there is confidence that three teams can easily be catered for, while the amount of games Bristol play on a Sunday would reduce the chance of a fixture clash.

The BBC Sport website claims that Rodney Parade is owned by The Dragons, and that Newport RFC share the ground with them.

No prizes for guessing which team will be playing its games elsewhere, if there were to be a congestion problem.

At least the turnstiles will get some use now.

True. A pro club side that has kept its identity should draw a crowd.

Nice idea - a bit of extra cash for Npt RFC and the Dragons to share - but were the Dragons supposed to be tarting up the parade NEXT YR AS WELL ? ? ?

Why should the Dragons take a "share" of the cash?

It is Newport's stadium, so Newport's rental revenue!

The Dragons ca keep their hands off!

development of RP is being undertaken so that it doesnt affect on field activities. i.e. playing at RP while work is being done.

Tony Brown is the major shareholder and is therefore, the ownwer of Rodney Parade. He is the one who will decide what happens to it.

Nice idea - hope it takes off. Would be great for all of Gwent (and also Wales) if the Dragons are able to get extra income which they can then invest, hopefully in the new stadium and quality players.

I can't believe that anyone could be narrow minded enough to disagree with that.

It is Newport RFC's stadium. More than likely, if this does go ahead, NRFC will have to play the odd game at another ground because of the congestion, which is an awful state of affairs.

The Dragons do not have any collateral, they do not own the stadium, why should they take any of the cash? Newport needs that cash to assit its own survival, and buy players to help challenge Neath.

Newport fans have been short changed enough, without having to watch the lodgers stealing money from NRFC, as well!

Why not kick the Dragons out, see if the mythical land of Gwent can find a home for them elsewhere, and then get Bristol in as lodgers that actually DO pay rent?

Yeah lets do that, lets get the Dragons out of Newport and give the money they give to Newport RFC to another club, and before you say they don't I know they do from a very very good source.
