Alleged attacker 'drove off laughing' - claim
A NEWPORT woman who was allegedly raped and dumped in an isolated lane told a court she didn't put up a struggle as she was too scared and did not want to get hurt.
The alleged victim, in her late twenties, told Cardiff Crown court yesterday that she had undone her own belt prior to the incident as she felt scared and didn't know where she was.
Paul Brand, 20, of Buttermere Way, Newport, denies charges of kidnapping, rape and theft.
His former school friend, Lee Chapman, 19, of Piper Close, Newport, denies kidnapping.
Harry Baker, defending Brand, asked the woman what efforts she made to escape the alleged attack, to which she replied: "I didn't make any effort, I didn't want to have sex with him but was was scared, I let him do whatever he wanted."
She added: "I did whatever he wanted because I didn't want to get hurt."
The woman had been out drinking in Newport with a group of friends on October 13 last year and was on her way home when she was offered a lift by Brand and Chapman near the Dodger pub on Chepstow Road.
The jury heard they then drove around Newport, ignoring the woman's requests to be taken home, before taking her to Llanwern.
The woman told the jury that during the car journey, Brand grabbed her by the throat and slapped her around the face.
She also said that when they arrived at a deserted spot close to Llanwern golf club, Brand pulled her out of the car by her hair before allegedly raping her.
She said after the attack she tried to get back into the car for her bag, but was pushed to the ground before the pair drove off, laughing.
The alleged victim told the jury that Brand had asked her earlier in the night to come home with him to have sex, but she said no.
When asked if she had given the impression that she was consenting to sex, the woman replied: "No, I did not say it was OK for him to do what he did."
Proceeding.
