Cannabis factory found in Newport house
POLICE seized hundreds of cannabis plants in a raid on a six-bedroom house in Newport today.
More than 200 plants, worth around £100,000, were seized from a house in Blacksmiths Way, Coedkernew.
The skunk cannabis plants, many of which were fully mature and almost ready to be harvested, were growing in five rooms across three floors.
One man was arrested at the scene and has been detained while investigations continue.
The electricity supply at the house, situated adjacent to the A48, had been bypassed in order to power thousands of pounds of hydrophonics, lighting and ventilation equipment.
DS John Evans said: "It is quite unusual to find a cannabis factory in a large and expensive property such as this.
"This discovery sends out the message that we will track down and arrest those who choose to produce drugs.
"We are pleased to have prevented this cannabis from getting out onto the streets where they can cause damage to communities and people's quality of life."
The cannabis factory was discovered after police received intelligence about cannabis cultivation at the six-bedroom property.
Gwent Police is urging people to contact them if they suspect any drug activity is happening in their area.
Anyone with information can contact them on 01633 838 111, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

Well the law has only just come in to force on the re classification.
Im sure they were just about to dispose of them.
I wonder were these skunk growers are from.
Getting quite regular these easy money earners.
Im sure they would find a lot more if the police helicopter went over a few more estates, as they say they stand out like beacons at night.

The reclassification is crazy! what a waste of time! If people want to smoke it they will. I thought our prisons were already overcrouded with real criminals. 1 in 10,000 men suffer from mental illness as a result of smoking it and 1 in 20,000 women. WHat about the Heroine and Crack dealers? Police, catch some real criminals then i'll be impressed!

yet again the police have swooped on a house growing cannabis, dont anyone else think it strange that you never hear of them doing a bust on crack or smack houses. Seems like the police aswell as the government, crack down on cannabis houses so that the public believe they are doing there jobs, more like a smoke screen for the big drugs to swamp on our streets.
