BUDDING young Gwent photographers had a day out at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium as part of a prize for their snaps in an Argus competition.

In a competition supported by Western Power Distribution, children between the ages of five and ten and 11 and 16 have been snapping around Gwent to capture the images of spring.

Jake Power, 15, of Malpas, Newport took the winning picture in the 11-16 category of lambs resting.

Jake said he was "very pleased" about winning, and hopes to get a job in photography.

He added: "It was great, I never knew about the tour until the day I found out I won."

Sam Lewis, 15, of Bryn Milwr, Hollybush, Cwmbran was runner-up in the category with his shot of his sister, Claudia, among daffodils.

Max Burton, five, won the younger category with his photo of chicks chirping in a nest, and Zeynep Ekmen, six, of Jones Street, Newport, was runner-up with her shot of her younger sister Canan in bluebells and snowdrops.

The two winners each got a digital camera and accessories worth £200, with a further £500 of media equipment for their schools.

The runners-up won a digital camera and accessories worth £100.

As a bonus, Western Power Distribution organised for the winners and runners up in both categories, as well as their parents and headteachers at the winning schools to have a tour at the national stadium on Saturday, and enjoy hospitality in the firm's box.

The group got to see sights including inside the home dressing room and the presidential box, which has housed dignitaries including Tony Blair and the Queen.
