A NEWPORT man who died in a police cell will be buried tomorrow.

Lee Donovan, 23, died on April 26, in a police cell in Pontypool.

He was arrested just hours earlier while on a night out in Newport, on suspicion of causing criminal damage.

Police took Mr Donovan to Pontypool, as the cells in Newport are currently being refurbished.

But he collapsed in his cell during the night and died.

Mr Donovan's funeral will be held at St Michael's RC Church, Newport at 9.30am tomorrow, followed by burial at Christchurch cemetery.

He is mourned by his father Mark, stepmother, Rose, his six brothers and sisters: Nicola, Charlene, Andrew, Mark, Katerina and Charmaine, as well as his grandmother Pat, his uncle and aunts: Michael, Linda and Ceri and their families.

The family still has no idea how Mr Donovan died, but is desperate to find out the truth about what happened that night.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the case and last week an inquest into Mr Donovan's death was opened and adjourned.
