LOCAL artists are to showcase their work at a Gwent market.
Pontypool Indoor Market will host weekly exhibitions from work by budding artists who attend local classes.
The idea for Art in the Market came from local students who wanted somewhere to exhibit their work.
Retha Durose, a local amateur artist, was one of those who came up with the venture.
She said: "There are a lot of us in painting groups and you end up with all these pictures lying in draws.
"We thought it would be nice to find somewhere to exhibit them."
More established local artists including Richard Davies and Rosemary Woodward will also be exhibiting at the market.
The display will be located in the former pet store by the Crane Street entrance starting on Wednesday (21) from 9am to 4.30pm.
Mrs Durose hopes the idea will take off and not only attract visitors, but also people looking for local art as a gift or to brighten up their homes.
