AN ABERGAVENNY man who died on Christmas Eve had consumed a fatal amount of alcohol, an inquest heard today.

Gary Francis Ptolomey, 32, was originally from Scotland but had been living in Wales for several years. The hearing at Newport said Mr Ptolomey was already dead by the time he was discovered by ambulance staff at his Victoria Street home.

Tests showed Mr Ptolomey was four-and-a-half times over the legal drink drive limit and the post mortem examination revealed he had died from acute alcohol toxicity.

A search of Mr Ptolomey's house by police found an empty bottle of vodka, a half-empty bottle of vodka and an empty bottle of Glenfiddich whisky.

There were also 11 boxes of diazepam and three empty boxes of diazepam.

Verdict: misdventure
