Two men have been arrested at a university campus under the Terrorism Act, police said.
Police said the men, aged 30 and 22, were arrested on the University of Nottingham campus on Wednesday morning.
One of the men is believed to be a student at the university while the other is a former student.
They were being questioned by detectives while premises connected with the men were searched by police including property on the university campus.
A police spokeswoman said the men were arrested as part of a joint operation between Nottinghamshire Police and the Midlands Counter-terrorist Unit.
Superintendent Simon Nickless from Nottinghamshire Police said: "Officers are working with community representatives to offer support and reassurance. The response has been calm and rational.
"Feedback is that people accept that this is the sort of operation that is necessary and reasonable for the welfare of communities."
Police said the operation on Wednesday morning was "low-key".
