UPDATE: Motorcyclist dies as serious crash closes Heads of the Valleys road

A MOTORCYCLIST has died in a fatal road traffic collision on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road this afternoon (Saturday).

A Peugeot 106 car, travelling towards Brynmawr, was involved in a collision with a Yahama motorcycle and a Brutale motorcycle, which were travelling towards Abergavenny.

Gwent Police is appealing for information about the crash, which happened at around 12.35pm on the outskirts of Clydach.

On arrival at the scene, emergency services pronounced one of the motorcyclists dead, while the other motorcyclist and the driver of the car suffered critical injuries.

The car passenger had minor injuries.

The driver of the car was taken by Air Ambulance to the University of Wales Hospital in Cardiff, while the surviving motorcyclist and the car passenger were taken to Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny.

The A465 Heads of the Valley Road between the Gilwern and Brynmawr roundabouts remains closed at this time with diversions in place.

The diversion which is in operation involves heading along the A467 to Junction 26 or 28 of the M4 and then onto the A4042, or vice versa.

Gwent Police is appealing for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact Gwent Police by dialling 101.

Myself and my neighbour did everything we could to help at the scene in front of our home. We stayed with the family of Kinikies friend, and made them tea. This afternoon, we laid on behalf of the village here in Blackrock, a wreath to the motocyclist who sadly passed away at the roadside. May he rest in peace. At 4pm, we laid a wreath at the scene. Our thanks to Powells florist abergavenny for arranging the wreath so quickly. We are all still here in a state of shock. This evening, we all have been supplying the police still at the roadside, with tea.

we have early this morning, cleared the road of litter and made the area presentable to the family should they wish to visit the scene. We've placed also a small crucifix there for the family also. If anyone is thinking of visiting to lay flowers, please don't use the bus layby on the A465 as its dangerous to park and pull in and out. The best way is to park in the car park of the Drum and Monkey pub and walk down to the area. The pub is closed sadly, but there is ample parking room for family and friends of the deceased.
