UPDATE: Detectives probing Croesyceiliog home invasion appeal for clues

DETECTIVES investigating an aggravated burglary which left a man with serious head injuries are asking residents to check their garden and bins for discarded clothes.

Police were called to a house on Caerwent Road, Croesyceiliog, Cwmbran, at 7.56pm on Friday.

Three masked men gained access through back door and attacked the couple who lived there with weapons.

The man, named locally as Darren Thomas, was attacked with a blunt ended heavy objects and he and his wife, believed to be Angela Thomas, were treated for injuries at Newport's Royal Gwent Hospital. They have now been discharged.

All three attackers wore headgear that covered their faces.

One man, thought to be the youngest, was described as being around 18 years old, of slight build with fair features. He wore a grey hooded, zip-up top.

Thre three men left the house empty handed and it is beleived they ran off in the direction of Chapel Lane and Avondale Road.

Officers want to talk to anyone who saw the men or anyone who has come across any discarded clothes, possibly in gardens or bins.

Police are looking at CCTV and forensic officers have been working at the scene. Anyone will with information is asked to contact Gwent Police on 101.
