Illegal fireworks sale crackdown in Torfaen by police and trading standards
TORFAEN Trading Standards and Gwent Police have been cracking down on the sale of illegal fireworks in the borough.
They recently carried out a joint raid on an industrial estate in Cwmbran acting on information that fireworks were being illegally stored and sold from there.
More than £200 worth of fireworks were recovered from the premises and the matter is currently under investigation.
Torfaen Trading Standards and Gwent Police are hoping this seizure will help stop fireworks getting into the hands of children and will reduce the number of accidents caused.
Head of Torfaen Trading Standards Steve Whitehouse said: "Every year there are unacceptable numbers of people injured through the misuse of fireworks. Torfaen council takes the unsafe storage or supply of fireworks at unlicensed premises very seriously and will take appropriate action on every identified incident."
With bonfire night almost upon us, ensure you stay safe by visiting an organised public display.
Pontypool Round Table will be holding their annual fireworks extravaganza in Pontypool Park on Monday, November 5, the only large display in Torfaen.
Gates open at 6pm and entertainment begins at 6.30pm with the firework display starting at 7pm.
The fireworks will be synchronised to music and there will be free glow sticks for children.
The first 10 minutes will be a display for young children, followed by a short break and then the main display, with food and refreshments available.
The organisers are expecting a large crowd again this year and recommend arriving early.
This is Pontypool Round Table's largest fundraising event and all money raised will go to local causes.
Admission is payable on the gate and costs £5 for adults, £3 for children or a family ticket can be purchased for £15.
