MORE than 7,000 turned out to experience the fun of the Christmas lights switch-on in Cwmbran.

Families of all ages were there to see Capital FM’s Cam and Sally and Cwmbran band The Envys perform along with other acts on the night. One young mum, Racheal White, 22 from Cwmbran said: “I wanted to show my little girl, Lilly Mae, five, the lights switch-on. It’s a great atmosphere here.”

Organiser of the event for Cwmbran Shopping Centre Betty Collins said: “It’s great to see so many people in the square. I think we have more than last year which was 7,000.”

The lights were nearly delayed when a woman in the crowd had a fit but they were switched on in time at 7pm by the performers and a seven-foot Christmas fairy.

Competition winner tenyear- old Olivia Saunders, from Cwmbran, who designed a Christmas motif for Cwmbran Community Council was also on stage.
