An ex police office working to control the police, interesting to see if he does a job for the electors or his old mates. A bit more independence may be needed over the next four years, but will it be there, only time will tell.

My son's school was used. And if, as I suspect, there was a very low turn out it has left me bitterly disappointed and upset at the board of governers for the school.
I have no idea of the turn out in this particular area but for maybe a couple of hundred people (if that many!) to turn up and vote for the sacrifice of a whole day's schooling is unacceptable!
Great for him that my boy had a day off school but what about all of the working parents from those countless schools that were involved who have had to find additional childcare or taken the day off work themselves!
They really should have consolidated some of the polling stations so the children could go to school and made other public places available.
As a working lone parent parent thsi issue has really angered me!

With all due respect to Mr Johnston, who I am sure is a worthy man, I suspect that this is a bad day for Gwent. I can't believe that a police pensioner is going to make an effective commissioner. He thinks as a policeman and will be unable to promote change. He is one of them so there will no independent oversight of Gwent police. We were better off before with the police authority.

This guy will cost us a lot more than his pay over his term. Made me laugh when he was asked in the build up if he was a Freemason. He just said NO.
Well he is and always has been, lets just hope he works with a strong Chief Constable, if not he will cost Gwent a lot.
Lets watch this space?

1) As an ex-cop he should not be allowed to run - although I have no doubt that his mates on the Force (not Service), will be more than happy
2) He has no mandate for anything - he got less than 50% of a truly pathetic turnout
3) Hopefully this attempt at US-style policing will disappear along with this government

What is it exactly have you got against the police?
The guys are there to do a job, and believe me we are in one of the greatest countries in the world, where the vast majority of police are in the job, to do the best job they can.
I can only surmise that the most vociferous objectors are the ones with something to hide.
Good luck to Ian Johnnston we need an independent to look at the issues.

At least the guy is not a politician, and subject to party policy.

And, yes, I did vote in the election. Needless to say, not for Mr. Johnston.
