THE 2013 Newport council calendar has been launched at the old art college.

The 12 images were selected by the Golden Bodkins, a group made up of volunteers who regularly give up their time at Newport Museum and Art Gallery, as well as members of museum staff.

All of them have a passion for local history and have been meeting at the museum for the past year.

The pictures chosen include a shot of Newport’s last ever tram in service, the old Lyceum theatre and a bustling Commercial Street decked out in bunting to celebrate the Coronation of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth in May 1937.

The calendar also features background information on each photograph. It is now on sale at the museum, priced £5.99. All proceeds go to the council.
