POLICE launched a manhunt after a newsagent in the Bettws area of Newport was robbed at knifepoint this morning.
Gwent Police say a man entered Martin's Newsagents in Bettws Shopping Centre at around 6.10am this morning and approached the shop assistant.
The man removed a knife from a carrier bag and threatened the shopkeeper, demanding money from inside the till.
He left the store with a quantity of cash and tobacco.
The man is white, in his late twenties to early thirties, 5ft 8ins, and of medium build.
He spoke with a local Newport accent and was wearing a black puffa jacket with a light grey hooded top underneath. The hood was pulled tightly around his face so the victim could only see his eyes.
He was also wearing dark coloured trousers, black boots and white gloves.
The man was carrying a white & green Asda bag for life.
Anyone with information, or who witnessed anything suspicious, should call Gwent Police on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
