Inquests into tragic crash girls opens

FOUR friends who died in a tragic car crash suffered multiple injuries after the vehicle left the road and rolled several times, an inquest was told today.

Ebbw Vale schoolgirls Danielle Caswell, Louise Jones, Kayleigh Parry and Katie Roberts died after the horrific incident on the Llangynidr to Beaufort mountain road last Thursday night.

At the hearing today, which was opened and adjourned by the Powys coroner Geraint Williams, it was revealed all four girls died of multiple injuries.

They were rear seat passengers in the car which rolled several times after leaving the road.

Fifteen-year-old Danielle, of Honeyfield Road, was the youngest. Katie, of Emlyn Avenue, would have celebrated her 16th birthday on December 7 while Kayleigh and Louise both turned 16 just last month.

Friends and family also gathered at churches in Ebbw Vale to say prayers for the teenagers and special services are taking place all week at their school, Glyncoed comprehensive.

Poignant tributes have been laid both at the site of the collision and at the school where counsellors are helping grief-stricken youngsters deal with the tragedy.

Two 17-year-old boys, who were in the front of the car, survived the crash and will be interviewed by the police.
