“THE supermarket has stopped selling tropical fruit! It’s enough to make a mango crazy,” said Newport man Grant Tucker.

This joke is one of 5,000 the 20-year-old has put together in his new book, which has received rave reviews.

5,000 Great One-Liners has sold 4,500 copies to publishers and Mr Tucker was on hand to sign some of them in Newport at the end of last week.

The former Coleg Gwent student works as an assistant PA to LBC radio presenter and publisher Iain Dale in London and he suggested the joke book idea.

In the job, Mr Tucker regularly meets celebrities, including Charlotte Church, whom he described as “really, really lovely.”

He has also stayed in touch with former Absolutely Fabulous actress June Whitfield, whom he met on a night out.

The pair struck up conversation and have since been on a trip to the theatre together.

He has sent her a copy of his book.

Mr Tucker said his inspiration comes from overhearing members of his family tell jokes and well-known comedians.

“I’ve met some really great comedians like Miranda Hart and Joan Rivers at the radio station,”

he said.

The book can be purchased online from Amazon.
