Usk Castle luxury camping trial to go ahead

TENT TRIAL: Usk Castle is to host a year's trial of camping with medieval-style tents like this one
A TRIAL of luxury camping at a site at Usk Castle can go ahead, say councillors.
Thomas Humphreys, of Castle House, asked for permission to put five medieval-style tents on land outside the walls of the tourist attraction.
Accommodating up to 22 visitors, they are going to be there between April and September.
The site, on an area known as the bowling green, is currently a paddock for grazing horses and a building yard for repairs.
The tents at the privatelyowned castle would replicate a medieval encampment but incorporate modern day comforts such as a basic cooking area and a toilet and shower block.
At the council meeting Cllr Debbie Blakebrough said: “I think it’s a really innovative enterprise that will attract tourists.”
Rosie Humphreys, who owns the castle with husband Henry, said the project is going to be run by her son Thomas.
The trial will last for one year.
