Les Mis flash mob descends on Newport cinema

UNSUSPECTING cinema-goers enjoyed a surprise performance when members of Newport's New Venture Players took part in a flash mob to promote the new Les Miserables film.

Around 50 members of the amatuer dramatics group burst into the film and stage show's hit song 'One Day More' at Cineworld in Spytty at 7pm, 7.30pm and 8pm on Wednesday evening.

Moments before they had been milling around the foyer, buying popcorn and queuing amongst customers.

Chairwoman of the group Georgia Tasker-Davies said the performances were very well received and they had great feedback.

The group came up with the stunt to promote the film ahead of its opening on Friday, January 11. They later booked out an entire screening for a black tie event to ensure they were among the first to see it.

The Young Venture Players perform 'Cats' at the Dolman Theatre from January 23 to 26, while the New Venture Players present 'The Witches of Eastwick' at the Dolman Theatre from April 3 to 6.

Yes, stopping people getting in the cinema and a general pain in the backside it was too!

They were all strutting around like they owned the place, no one wanted to see that lot of armatures, people go to the cinema to watch real actors.

Pathetic, flash mob, grow up.

Shame there has to be a negative comment about this.

Lots of very talented people giving up their spare time to help promote what I'm sure will be an amazing film.

I was also there and thought it was fabulous, the group sounded superb and was well received by the vast majority of people watching.

I say well done New Venture Players and good luck in your upcoming shows.

Firstly may I draw your attention to your spelling.
Secondly, I can only assume that you have never watched a performance in the Dolman theatre by this hugely multy talented group of people. I myself was there and thought it was brilliant. Well done to all involved.

it's not everyone's cup of tea though, if people wanted to see this lot they would go and watch a show of theirs.

I don't think a major film with Hugh Hackman staring needs the help of this lot to promote it!

It was just an opportunity for a bunch of wannabes to show off.

Sorry, I'm struggling to hear you over 4,582 views on Youtube and the official Les Miserbales movie page sharing the video.
But I will say this, luckily, people weren't subjected to view 'armatures' but a very talented amateur society, who congregated on the balcony of the cinema (someone tell me how this stopped people getting in?!) And the 'real actors' and producers in question have also promoted the video.

Absolute class something that Newport so often lacks! Documentaries on chavs and idiotic doormen give the city such a negative image! Well done to every single talented person involved! Superb, spine tingling and going totally viral! ! BRAVO X

If you're going to start your post with "Firstly may I draw your attention to your spelling.", then at least make sure you can spell "multi" correctly.

That's the trouble with people who think they are a cut above, they don't like it when their love for the arts is criticised.

They think everyone should love, adore and throw roses at their "performance" in a cinema, where people just want to go in and watch a movie.

This little stunt was just the amateurs showing off in front of an audience who, to be honest, was not interested one bit, most of the people watching it were friends and family of the people doing it!

I think this lot are a bunch of narcissists, there are people and groups with talent everywhere, but you don't see them flash mobbing all over the shop to feed their ego do you?

As for dole and x-factor, neither apply to me I am sorry.

It's my opinion, and it's drawn some rather rude and unfounded assumptions from these noble actor types, who are obviously not the cut above that they think they are.

The funny thing is no one cares what you think. We are mocking you for having nothing better to do with your life than whinge about something like this.

Likewise, no one cares about what you lot think either, or your silly flash mob. It's ironic really, I made a comment, you don't like, so you attack and assume that I am on the dole etc, and your whinging on about my post that no one cares about???

Have you nothing better to do with your life???

Oh, I know, why don't you arrange a flash mob to feed your ego........ pathetic.........

I hope nobody takes any notice of the silly negative comments on here, unfortunately theres alot of uneducated, bored and ignorant people around here and many of them seem to comment on this site.

God alive, give the inverted snobbery thing a rest. It only lasted a few minutes and was a pretty cool and brave performance considering they picked a venue where spitting normally passes for culture.
