A CLOSE friend’s diagnosis of multiple sclerosis has inspired a Newport man to run this year’s London Marathon and organise a charity evening.
Daniel Harrison, 22, of Newport, has never run a marathon before, but since his place in the event – on Sunday April 21 – was confirmed, he has been in training.
He has also found time to organise a sell-out fundraising evening at Newport’s Lysaght’s Institute next month.
Mr Harrison is raising money for the Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Trust, which aims to enable people with the disease to live their lives to the full. The charity provides information for people living with MS, and education for health professionals about what patients need. It also funds research into better management of the disease, which is the most common long-term neurological disease.
“My aim is to raise more awareness of MS generally, and funds to help people with the disease. I’ll be very grateful to anyone who is kind enough to donate to the cause,” said Mr Harrison, who works at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.
