A PONTYMISTER man has been ordered to pay £215 for letting his dog foul at a park in Risca and failing to pick it up.

Austin John Martin, of Baptist Place, Pontymister was issued with a £75 fixed penalty notice for failing to pick up after his dog in Tredegar Park, Risca.

Mr Martin failed to pay the fixed penalty and as a result a court case was taken against him where he entered a not guilty plea by post.

The case was proved in Mr Martin’s absence on Monday 14th January; he was ordered to pay a £100 fine, £100 costs and a £15 victim surcharge whereby a 14 day collection order was made.

Cllr Dave Poole, Cabinet Member for Community and Leisure Services, said, “It is unacceptable for anyone to fail to pick up after their dog and, as a council with a zero tolerance stance on the matter, we will always issue on the spot fines to those caught failing to do so. It is everyone’s responsibility to look after the environment we live in and that includes dog owners.”

He added, “When people fail to pay their fixed penalty notice we will always pursue the matter through the courts and I am pleased that this case has resulted in another successful prosecution.”
