DISRUPTION was caused across Blaenau Gwent with many snowed in but others still braving the elements to carry out their duties.

All schools in the borough were closed except for Brynmawr, Ebbw Fawr and Tredegar which were only open to pupils taking exams.

All leisure centres and libraries also closed as well as the visitors centre and car park at Parc Bryn Bach and Bedwellty House.

Rail journeys between Cardiff Central and Ebbw Vale Parkway were also cancelled for part of the morning but were then resumed just after 11am.

Residents were finding themselves stuck indoors throughout the area including Nicola Williams, of King Street, Cwm.

She said: "It is quite bad here. Everything is shut and there is hardly anything outside."

Mrs William’s husband, Jeff who works for the council’s refuse and recycling department, was also at home after the council decided to postpone collections due to the weather.

Leanne Harwood, of Cwmtillery, said: "I’m snowed in. The snow is coming up over my patio doors. It’s a good couple of inches. There have been no buses and I’ve seen one car all morning. I might be going out to build a snowman soon."
