IT WAS certainly a nice day for a white wedding on Saturday for a couple who got married in a snow-covered Pontypool.
It may have been a cold winter’s day, but a Cwmbran couple became Mr and Mrs Summers after tying the knot at Pontypool register office.
Thomas Summers, who will be 24 on Wednesday, married Sarah Morris, 31, at 3pm on Saturday.
The couple, who live in Thornhill, Cwmbran, have been together since November 5, 2010, having met through Sarah’s sister.
Around 30 people out of the 85 expected guests managed to make it to the register office in the adverse weather conditions, but the couple said they had an absolutely beautiful white wedding.
Mr Summers said: “It was truly a white wedding, it was absolutely beautiful.
“We were a bit worried about the weather at first, and it was manic trying to get everyone to the registry office with emotions flying high, but we got there and it was fantastic.
“The wedding after us had cancelled so we ended up being the only ones getting married there that day.
“Sarah had to walk very carefully across the ice, holding her dress up to her waist. She nearly slipped a few times but fortunately made it to the limo without falling over.
“A lot of our guests nearly fell over too as the reception car park was a sheet of ice but everyone was extra careful.
“It was a really good ceremony, which everyone enjoyed, and afterwards we went over to the memorial gates, where we had some lovely photos taken with the snowy scenery behind us.
“We checked in at the Ashbridge Inn, where we had the reception, and a bottle of champagne was waiting for us in the room.
“It was a proper, proper white wedding.”
